Ministry Of Education Promotes Moral and Ethical Training For Students

PHNOM PENH: Undersecretary of State for the Ministry of Education, Sok Sabayna, said that investing in education is important, but that it must be accompanied by teachings in morality, virtue and ethics to create a society full of good and helpful citizens.

Speaking at the Golden Gate American School’s (GGAS) Nursery and Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony on Sunday, August 7, Undersecretary Sok Sabayna said that investing in education not only benefits children, but Cambodia as a whole. However, he said that knowledge alone is not enough to make a civilized society; but that adults must cultivate virtues, morals and ethics as well.

"Knowledge and education are very important in building human resources, but bringing virtues, morals and ethics to society is even more important," he said. According to Sok Sabayna, a good citizen respects their elders, has a gentle attitude and is responsible.

He thanked GGAS for joining the government in improving the quality of education for the next generation.

Claire Challinor, Director of the GGAS English Language Kindergarten Program, said that the school provides students with a comprehensive curriculum so that they can enjoy the beginning of their studies. She added that GGAS is able to cater to individual student needs, which helps them both in and out of the classroom.

"We do everything possible to insure your child’s learning in a happy and safe environment with qualified teacher who easily adapt to your child’s requirements," she said.

Principal Heng Sokunthea said that in the 27 years since the school’s establishment, GGAS has become highly capable in providing education to students through national and international education curriculums. Students graduate from GGAS with a diploma that is recognized in Cambodia, but also internationally.

"On this special occasion, I would like to call on the Ministries, Institutions, the Private Sector, Excellencies, Lok Chumteavs, Ladies and Gentlemen, and all the Guardians to continue to support the efforts of the Golden Gate American School in developing human resources developing the country here and internationally,” she said.

The Kindergarten graduation ceremony featured lovely singing and dancing performances by the students who were proud to demonstrate their abilities. Following their performance, students were presented with certificates by ministry officials and school leaders before moving on to their next step in education.
